Using Trufa

Do I need an account, and is it free?

Free, and you can browse, search, use the map and spin the machine without one. An account lets you save spots, confirm a deal, rate a bar and start a vote; voting on a friend’s link needs nothing.

What do Happy now, Today and Tomorrow mean?

Happy now is every deal pouring this minute. Today and Tomorrow show what runs on that day, and the hour menu narrows it to a time. Every option carries a count, and one with nothing behind it is greyed out rather than hidden. Happy now →

What is Last call?

A deal with under 20 minutes left leaves the grid for its own short row, so the default order never sends you to a window about to shut.

Why is a bar under Not today?

It has a deal, just not on the day you are looking at. The card says which days it runs, and Tomorrow shows what opens next.

What is the spin machine?

A slot machine that picks tonight’s bar from the deals pouring now or within half an hour, inside a walking radius of where you stand or a neighborhood corner. Share the spin and friends can say they’re in. Spin →

How do votes work?

Pick two to five bars and send one link. Friends vote without an account and can change their vote until it closes, and everyone sees the same result. Start a vote →

Can Trufa tell me when a saved spot is pouring?

Two emails, both off until you switch them on in your account: a heads-up in the late afternoon on days one of your saved spots has a deal on, once a day at most, and a Thursday note on what is worth the walk below 14th. Every one carries a one-click unsubscribe. Email settings →

Can I save a bar?

Yes, with an account: tap Save on any card or venue page and it joins your list. Saved also keeps a Been list of the bars you’ve marked, which the spin machine can skip. Saved →

Behind the board

How does Trufa check a deal?

A person reads the bar’s own menu or stands at the bar, and every deal says who checked it and when. Nobody pays to be listed. How we check →

What does Confirmed mean on a deal?

Who checked it and when: Trufa staff, people at the bar who tapped Confirm this deal, or the bar’s own menu, website or Instagram, each labeled and never blended. The full rules →

How fresh is the board?

192 of the 204 deals on the board were checked in the last 30 days, and the newest check was yesterday. Past 30 days a deal is marked stale and drops in every list until someone re-checks it.

Do bars pay to be on Trufa?

No. No venue can buy a listing, a ranking or a re-check. The short list ranks on checked prices and hours, and if that ever changes, How we check will say so first.

How is the short list ranked?

Ranked by the lowest checked price and the hours a week the deal runs. No venue pays to be here. The short list →

Where does the Google rating on a card come from?

From Google, with Google’s name on it, refreshed about twice a month and hidden once it is more than thirty days old. It never decides an order on Trufa.

Does Trufa cover Brooklyn, or anything above 14th Street?

Not yet. We started below 14th because that is where we drink, and the rest of the city is coming. The neighborhoods →

How do I add a bar that isn’t on the board?

Send it through Submit a spot, account or not. Nothing reaches the board on its own: a person checks it first, and it publishes when it passes. Submit a spot →

A price or time is wrong. How do I report it?

Tap Not quite right? on the deal. It files a report an editor reads, and two reports of the same kind make the dispute public on the venue page while we look. Anything else goes through Contact. Contact →
